Where do the kiteboarding lessons take place?

Lessons are held at Hearsons Cove, Settlers Beach or Hampton Harbour depending on the wind direction.

Westerly wind: September to January - Lessons will be at Hampton Harbour Dampier.

Easterly wind: May - August - Lessons will be at either Hearsons Cove or Settlers Beach.

Is it hard to learn how to kiteboard?

With good instruction anyone can learn how to kiteboard. You need to love the ocean, getting wet and have a good sense of adventure.

Do lessons include equipment?

Yes we provide all equipment for the kiteboarding lessons.

What do I need to bring to the lesson?

You need to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water.

How long does it take to learn how to kiteboard?

We recommend complete beginners start with a discovery level 1 and discovery level 2 kiteboarding course (6 hours of instruction). By the end of this course you will have all the knowledge you need to get into the water and practice. All students are different and some may require additional lessons to become safe to start practicing on their own.

Do you do group lessons?

We can complete 2 students per 1 instructor on request for the first lesson however recommend private 1:1 lessons for the second lessons to ensure fast progression. Contact us to discuss options.

Do you need to be really fit to start kiteboarding?

You need a basic level of fitness.

What age can you start kiteboarding?

It varies depending on the child. Kiteboarding involves a lot of theory and some situations can be dangerous and scary. It therefore depends on the maturity, attention span, size and commitment of each child.

What is your lesson cancellation policy?

If you cancel your lesson:

If you will not be able to attend a lesson you must cancel or reschedule 48hours prior to the booked start time so we are able to fill your spot. If you do not provide that notice, or do not turn up for a lesson, the time will be deducted from your lesson package.

If we cancel your lesson:

We will do our best to give you as much notice as possible if we have to cancel your lesson, however the weather forecast is not always accurate and it does tend to change at the last minute.

Where a lesson is cancelled by Karratha Kite School, we will do our best to re-schedule your lesson for the next available time that the conditions are good. If your lesson is shortened by Karratha Kite School due to unfavourable weather conditions we will re-schedule that portion of the lesson.

There will be no fees incurred or loss of lesson time if Karratha Kite school reschedules your lesson time.

How strong does the wind have to be to kiteboard?

We usually require 15 knots for a kiteboarding lesson.

What tide is best for learning how to kiteboard?

To learn kite skills in the discovery level 1 lesson we need beach space - therefore a low tide is best.

To learn board skills we need water however it is easiest if you can still touch the ground so a mid tide is best.
